Skew-Three Roof House

Skew-Three Roof House is located in Sleman, DI Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The site condition is on a road hook with the front side facing north and the side (longest) facing west side. The layout is made obliquely as a response to the shape of the site by taking into account the tropical climate. The building mass is divided into three parts that are not attached to the fence wall. This arrangement of spatial relationships produces an interesting spatial experience.

The challenge in this site is that there is a ditch for irrigation on the north-west side and a regional monument in front of the house, we have torn apart a bit of the fence wall which is connected to the garden. There is also a slightly different zoning in this house by entering the house through the corridor before meeting the spacious family room at the back.

This house was designed with a compact building area approach, the building area is only 81 square meters from a land area of 268 square meters, resulting in asymmetrical garden spaces with different atmospheres. One of the main elements in this house is the facade, this house has 2 different looks and creates a unique visual experience. From the front this house only has one roof, but from the side this house has three roofs.

The layout of this house is divided into 3 rooms, consisting of the main room, children’s room and guest room. Uniquely, the owner of this house placed his three children in one bedroom which were stacked in three. This is based on the fact that the child has plans to pursue boarding education. Because the area is quite compact, we placed a hidden storage area in the interior shelves and created a hidden storage space above the ceiling.
